28: Squash

I love playing a game of squash... but the ants don't.

I have not played squash since high school, so this challenge was the perfect opportunity for me to revisit the sport again. When I was ten, I played competition squash at Maccabi Squash Centre where I started my first ever job manning the drinks counter. I was sad to hear recently that the Centre was demolished in favour of residential appartments, but such is life.

My girlfriend's brother is a squash jet, but for my first opponent I was interested in playing someone more on my level. I spoke to a friend interested in picking up the sport and we scheduled a game in the first week of the new year.

My first shots were horrendous. I had about 6 air swings in the first five minutes of play, and when I did manage to connect a shot, it was not pretty. I was puffed out, my old racket was falling apart and we hadn't been playing for 10 minutes yet! Not a great start. Once I switched rackets to one provided by the squash centre my fortune changed. Winner after winner I hit to arrest the momentum of game. I finished the match winning 2 sets to 1.

I definitely will play again in the near future. Bring on the next challenger!
